The Friends of Jacksonville Animals, Inc. was founded in 2008 by a small group of volunteers who recognized that the animals who arrived at the city’s shelter frequently needed far more than the care and services that the city of Jacksonville’s budget allowed. As the shelter is legally required to accept all animals, be they strays, surrendered by their owners, or confiscated for cruelty or neglect, resources are often stretched far too thin.

To address this heart-breaking problem, Friends is committed to being a “voice for the shelter animals.” They want to make sure the animals receive every opportunity available during their time at the shelter. If they need care, Friends will help care for them. If they are scared, Friends will hold them. If they need love, Friends will show them love. And when they are ready to be adopted, Friends will work to help them find a safe haven.

Friends believe every adoptable animal deserves to live and that innocent animals should not be put to sleep simply because a society says there is no room for them. Their focus is to end unnecessary euthanasia of helpless animals and to educate the public about responsible pet ownership. All funds donated to Friends go to aid local homeless animals.
